Acerca de nuestra casa

This is an up and coming area of a very vibrant Asian port city. The apartment is on the 4th floor, off a little used street but still very close to a major intersection. The place is small, typical of Asian apartments, but has two bedrooms and two baths with a substantial common area (living room.) As a single renter, I use the dining room as my drawing studio but it can be used as a third bedroom if needed. The kitchen is very small (again very typical) as the local culture is to eat out as much as possible -- there is a night market and great street food nearby. I use wifi internet but don't use a landline phone. There are rental bicycles (less than $4 US for three hours/all day; a city-sponsored service) three blocks away, and metro access in a under a 15 minute walk.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. I work for a private, local international high school serving the expat community. Originally from Los Angeles, I'm an avid traveller who has been to over 15 different countries on every continent (well, nearly!) I like to experience the 'real" city and local culture, so I usually avoid the big hotels and things. My first apartment exchange resulted from a happy coincidence, letting me visit Prague as I pursued a Master degree in International Education. I like to read, draw, and share stories. I love to help others experience Asia, and will be happy to set you up with suggestions on how to master this exotic city.

Where is it?

Kaohsiung, Taiwan, is a relaxed but vibrant port city, the second largest city in Taiwan, after the capital Taipei. The Gushan district and neighboring Zuoying District are known to be relatively fashionable suburbs with a large number of expats. My apartment is a few blocks away from the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts and its extensive green environs, and in the other direction, the Kaohsiung Arena with a very modern mall on one side and a very traditional night market on the other.

English is widely spoken and I have never had a problem finding help from the very friendly Taiwanese people. Cafes are plenty with lots of free wifi. I will admit that my most flexible dates for exchange lands in the summer months, which overlap with very hot+humid weather. This is a tropical country and you will feel it at this time especially; thankfully the brunt of bad weather is born by Taipei and not here.

Getting around is easy- the city offers cheap bicycle rental, a fairly useable metro, and very very cheap taxis. You'll find beaches, the very hike able "Monkey Mountain", and a hip arts district. More adventurous travelers can make half-day or full day trips to indigenous Hakka region or the seaside surf town near Kenting National Park. More traditional travelers could use the high-speed rail to visit Taipei for a cheap bookend vacation. I am a very thorough host and have exchanged three times (albeit in other cities I've lived in) to make sure you have the most comfortable and easy experience.
