Acerca de nuestra casa

A 19th century farmhouse, our home has recently been renovated in a contemporary style offering exposed beams and a wood burning fire. Big windows and an open communal living space make it a perfect house for relaxing. The house is situated in a small hamlet overlooking farmland and the woods which are criss-crossed by a network of paths and bridleways ideal for walks, trail biking and running.

It is on the edge of a vast forest but on the outskirts of Lausanne. We have three bedrooms, one large double, one standard double and one single with the additional possibility of the sofa bed downstairs. There are three bathrooms, two with showers and one with a bath and a fourth toilet downstairs. The living room on the mezzanine above the kitchen-diner has a wood fire and large windows looking across to the forest. We see the forest from our dining area which looks onto a small lane frequented by horse riders, cyclists, walkers and a few cars. To the west is the Jura. To the rear is the garden which is entirely fenced in and safe for dogs.

Lausanne is a beautiful city on the banks of Lake Geneva. It is the Olympic Capital, home to the award winning Olympic Museum, and next door to the UNESCO world heritage site of the Lavaux wine region. The city centre and Lake Geneva with its beaches are just 20 minutes away. Geneva, Montreux and Vevey (Charlie Chaplin's home and now museum) are nearby. Take a paddle steamer across the lake. In the summer, swim, paddle board or sail. In winter, cross-country and down hill skiing are not far away or you can put on your snowshoes and head for a raclette or fondue in a mountain restaurant in the Jura. All year round the hills and mountains are great for walking. There are great train trips; join the chocolate train to the Nestlé/Cailler factory or drive 50 minutes to the medieval walled town of Gruyère for a traditional vaudoise cream tea with fruit and meringues.

We have a few mountain bikes for adults available. There are three excellent restaurants within striking distance. The Abbaye de Montheron 5 minutes walk down the hill next to the 12th century Cistercian Abbey ruins, and the Chalet des Enfants, 25 minutes through the forest with a large outdoor terrace and children's play area and a beer fondue. The modern Moulin de Cugy is 5 minutes by car in the village of Cugy. Here you will find two bakeries and, in the centre of the old village, a farmhouse where you can buy cold meats and cheese or apple tart to make up a brunch to eat on the premises on Saturday mornings. There is a small supermarket, Vietnamese restaurant, cash points and Post Office. In nearby Le Mont, there is a Coop.
