We are living in a quiet residential area above Maribor, the second biggest town in Slovenia and situated close to Austrian border. The house overviewing the city is located next to forest and vineyards and there is only 10 minutes’ walk to the centre. There is a superb view over the town and Pohorje Mountain. Our home disposes over sunny balcony, terrace and garden with flowers and trees.
On the ground floor there are a spacious living room with big open fireplace, the kitchen both with access to terrace with BBQ and loggia overlooking the garden, master bedroom with balcony and bathroom.
Upstairs there are another living room, the kitchen both with access to balcony, 2 bedrooms (first: master bedroom, second: single bed and TV), separate TV room, bathroom and a separate toilet.
We are retired professors of University of Maribor, Igor and Gabrijela both just about 70’s and share enthusiasm for biking. We usually travel with our friends of the same age Rasto and Tanja. We have had together several successful exchanges with their house in Bled. Now we would like to offer our house which is in the North East part of Slovenia famous by its wines, spa resorts and trekking and skiing on Pohorje Mountain.
We are interested in discovering new cultures, new landscapes and different life styles.
We are very respectful of the property of others and will take care of your home as if it was ours.
There are many footpaths and biking routes around the town and along river
Drava. City’s historical area called Lent is hosting restaurants and bars and
every day there is a farmers market.
No more than 5 km away is Pohorje Mountain accessible with a ropeway and
serves as quite popular trekking area. The hills surrounding Maribor offer
numerous villages and wine routes.
By car (1 to 2 hours’ drive) you can reach wine region similar to Toscana in the
very East of Slovenia around Radenci and Radgona offering also attractive
typical food, spas, biking routes and trekking possibilities. An interesting
historical town to visit is ancient town founded by the Romans Ptuj (Poetovia).
It will take you half an hour drive by car, but can also be reached by bike (35 km
one way).
Slovenia is a small country, but disposes over unbelievable geographical
diversity. So also when located in Maribor a lot of interesting places are within
a daily visit reach – such as Adriatic Sea, Alps as well as Pannonia lowlands
stretching further to Hungary.
Among close and popular destinations let us mention: Vienna (250 km),
Budapest (350 km), Zagreb (120 km) and Venice (350 km). The nearest airports
are: Graz (60 km), Ljubljana (120 km) and Zagreb (120 km).
