Acerca de nuestra casa

A traditional Courtyard house in the heart of Pondicherry - the former French Colony, Tamil Nadu, South India. The house is an architectural wonder, built during the 20th century, by a Muslim owner who had strong leanings towards Christian arches and columns! The house has been featured in the 'World of Interiors' - Jan 2013. It unfolds from a central (open sky cover) courtyard, with 3 main bedrooms adjacent, where our 3 boys (and us) are settled. There is 4th bedroom, which we use as a TV room, complete with King-size bed, attached bath and toilet. Meanwhile we have a sizable main bathroom, with shower, bath and walk in closet. Three bedrooms have AC and fans. Just before the garden - complete with kids ruckus - (swing and trampoline) is the kitchen at the back the house a tiny and cute affair - although we have full time staff -a cleaner and cook at your disposal - along with a nanny if required (who usually looks after our 5 year old). Together they will pamper your stay - Basically is a family home... from laundry, shopping, to cooking etc. - so no worries on the domestic front. We have Wi-Fi, TV and plenty of films...(1000's).

For fellow artist's; my husbands studio is also available... wonderfully lite, lots of space.. near the sea.. 2 mins from the house.

If your looking toward a coastal escape - a touch of South Indian spice - this is the place for you, the white wash crumbling walls are a charm to behold. Its Tamil Nadu at its best- gentle discreet but rather lovely.
We have transport - even a pink ambassador - along with new 2 scooter - all of which can be arranged for you, we can even arrange a driver if you fancy an excursion.

Más sobre nosotros

  1. I (Agathe Lazaro) am designer - I have a boutique called Oh La La - housed in the beautiful La Maison Rose - The house is naturally an extension of my French/Indian-ness gleaned from spending over 20 years in the land of cows. My husband - English of Indian origin - is the artist - Desmond Lazaro - (See my Homepage), who also has his studio on the first floor of La Maison Rose. Together with our three boys, Basile (5), Felix (8) & Emile (11) -all of whom attend the local Lycee' - the 2nd largest in Asia. Pondy is our home for the last 5 years, we enjoy the romantic colonial time capsule, strolling on the promenade, the beach at the weekend or Auroville - great food - best Pizza in India, horse riding, football, tennis, swimming (plenty of hotels with this facility) - great for kids - good for us and our 1 year old dog… come and enjoy..

Where is it?

Pondicherry - is little bit of France in India, formerly a French colony, with a franco-pondicherien community that speaks Tamil and French in equal measure. Nearby (15 mins by scooter/car or rickshaw) is Auroville -the utopic community set up back in 1968 - dedicated to the vision of Sri Aurobino - the South Indian philosopher/saint. In Pondy (as we call it) his ashram continues today and large swathes of the city house his distinct devotees, quiet if slightly odd body of people - you may have noticed wondering around - Ange Lee's 'Life of pie' - which incidentally was film at the end of our street! Pondy is a small town, which you can navigate easily on foot - as well as scooter- in lest than a day. We have India’s only sea front promenade, were every evening - one and all wonder in this 19th century Parisian manner. Still the Tamilian influence is close at hand - Christian, Hindu & Muslim - Basilica’s, Mosques and temples are dotted around the town. The local flower market is a must, were (literally) millions of garlands are made daily - before breakfast.
Places of interest - well pretty much you have south India - from Madras, Chetinand, Kodi Kannal, to Triruvanamali, Tagore, on your doorstep... It s gentle way to see and experience India without the hassle.
