Acerca de nuestra casa

Recently renovated 3-bedroom condo in one of the most famous street of the fashion district of São Paulo (Rua Oscar Freire). It used to be a family home, but now houses an nerdy academic, her many many books, and her super cute recue dog (and her Canadian hubby for part of the year!). It has two good bedrooms - one of which has a private bathroom - and the third room was turned into a study. Besides the other bathroom in the main area, there are a tiny third one being mainly used to stock cleaning products and other things people end up acquiring during life. All the rooms have big windows and the whole condo is very bright, safe and carefully decorated, both with old good furniture from the grandparent's country house, and funky new design pieces.

Restaurantes llenos de vida
If you like a gastronomic experience, D.O.M (by chef Alex Attala) has been considered the best in Latin America (Rua Barão de Capanema, 549). There is also the amazing Antiquarius (at Alameda Lorena, 1884) and A Figueira Rubayat (Rua Haddock Lobo, 1738). All of them are walking distance. But of if you are a bit short on travel money, there is Las Chicas Gourmet Garage, with the menu developed by chef Carla Pernambuco (Rua Oscar Freire, 1607). There is also the Consulado Mineiro, for heavy amazing Brazilian regional food (Praça Benedito Calixto, 74)… or you could do as I do: I try ALL the bakeries I can find, you´ll learn they are so much more than bakeries. You can also find great sushi in every corner in this part of town.
Bares fantásticos
Both of my favourite pubs are Irish… our local one is called Finnegans (Rua Cristiano Viana, 358) and there the larger and louder O´Malleys, with the best San Patrick´s parties lasting a week, at Alameda Itu, 1529. I also go to Cão Véio a lot (because of all the rock´n´roll, at Rua João Moura, 871) and JazznosFundos, to listen to jazz and have cheap beers (Rua João Moura, 1076).
Cafetería hogareña
As most Brazilians I am a coffeeaholic… and virtually anywhere you can get a decent expresso these days. Santo Grão, however, is gourmet experience (Rua Oscar Freire, 413), as is the Café Suplicy (Alameda Lorena, 1430). My personal favorite is inside my local book store, Livraria da Vila (Alameda Lorena, 1731).

The street itself (Rua Oscar Freire) is an haute couture dream… just walk a couple of blocks down!
Un toque de cultura
São Paulo has many museums with respectable collections, I love MASP (at Avenida Paulista, 1578), one called the Pinacoteca, which is inside a park, not very close, however (Praça da Luz, 2). The Faap Collection on Brazilian 20th Century artists is free (Rua Alagoas, 903). Our Opera House reminds me of Musée D´Orsay (Paris), is called Sala São Paulo and our Sinfonic is pretty good (Praça Júlio Prestes, 16, you´d have to get a cab to get there)! Or you could try some vegan food, meditation with drums and yoga at Casa Jaya, less than a block away (Rua Capote Valente, 305).
Paseos por el parque
Parks? Neither my dog or I enjoy parks… go figure! But there is the iconic Ibirapuera Park, not far. There is also the Trianon Park on Paulista Avenue, but since it is across the street from one of my favorite museums (MASP), I just do not see the point. Less than block from us, there is a type of a club, with a pool, soccer field and a trail in woods… It´s called AAAOC, they offer day deals and monthly ones. They have sand boxes for kids and a gym.
Un poquito de ejercicio
How about explore the city? Or you could enjoy yoga at Casa Jaya (Rua Capote Valente, 305), the pilates studio across the street or the AAAOC woods trail or their gym, as I mentioned in the “Parks” section (Rua Arthur de Azevedo, 1).
Un viajecito de un día
You can go antique shopping in the Saturday market at Praça Benedito Calixto! Or see a preserved colonial town not far away (Embu das Artes, Centro Histórico).
