We live in a cosy, traditional 19th century brick house with a small, sunny and very secluded back garden. The living room, kitchen and a small sitting room with access to the garden are on the ground floor. There is a large and airy master bedroom with a king-size bed in the attic and a guest-room with a smaller double bed, as well as a large office/consulting room and the bathroom on the first floor; toilets are available on both ground and first floor.
The house is very quiet and peaceful, the comfortable sitting room invites lounging about in, the patio out back is a good place for barbecues and lunching in the garden. Two adult-size bicycles are available, cleaning and ironing can be arranged.
Helena and Ted both work as body-oriented therapists with adults, Ted also works with children with various school and behavioral difficulties as Neurodevelopmental Delay Therapist. Helena is a Psycotherapist too. We are both over 50 and have adult children and one grandchild. We love travel, music, cinema, good books, conversation, good food and friendship, as well as being fascinated with all the forms and varieties of human development and communication.
The house nestles into the curve of the steps up to the church, providing a very idyllic atmosphere, and is entirely sheltered from traffic noise. All the same, it is just steps away from shops, cafes and restaurants as well as the Danube lined by the long-distance bicycle route running from Passau in Germany to Budapest in Hungary www.donauradweg.at/ . Mauthausen www.mauthausen.at/ is a charming small medieval market town, and the region abounds with similar historical gems such as Enns www.enns.at/, Steyr www.steyr.at/ and Freistadt www.freistadt-tourismus.at/. Linz www.linz.at/ , the provincial capital, is just twenty minutes by car, and provides everything from a wide choice of eating places, the famous Ars Electronica Museum among a number of others, a first rate programme cinema, shopping and leisure facilities. Vienna www.vienna.at/ and Salzburg www.salzburg.info/ are within easy (less than 2 hours) reach by car or train.
Something not everyone knows is that on the outskirts of the town is located the memorial www.mauthausen-memorial.at/ site of the war-time concentration camp with an attached museum and related exhibitions which receives many thousands of visitors every year both from within Austria (including school visits) and abroad who come to remember the persecutions and pay their respects to the victims.
