Our comfortable, colourful home is on a quiet street in the bustling inner-city neighbourhood of Birchgrove-Balmain. The house is a sunny, relaxed oasis, with restaurants, cafes and shops a stroll away. The nearby bus or ferry will take you to the city centre, Circular Quay, art galleries and theatres.
Our home is relaxed, stylish and comfortable, with a large, backyard, including a frangipani tree to read under or climb, a large sun-filled veranda, and a small deck for breakfast and dinner. The house has been decorated with a mix of designer and collectible furnishings. There is a flat screen TV, Netflix and a good stereo.
The main bed is king size with a comfortable tempurpedic (memory foam) mattress. The spare bed in the study is a latex and wool queen mattress (also very comfortable). The single bed is a latex and wool mattress. And the lounge in the lounge room becomes a double bed.
The kitchen is un-renovated, but it has a new gas stove, and is large, well equipped and easy to use.
Guests will have access to the kitchen, dining area, lounge room, bathroom, veranda, balcony, two bedrooms and a study which can act as a small third bedroom.
Our home is a five minute stroll to Balmain, which is known for its bars, restaurants, pubs, cafes, and shopping. There are art and craft markets on the weekend in Balmain and second hand markets in nearby Rozelle (10 minute walk).
There is an excellent cafe and a well-stocked convenience store around the corner. Woolworths and About Life (large organic supermarket) are a short drive or ten minute walk away.
Birchgrove is one of Sydney's premier locations for viewing the fireworks on New Years Eve. Our home is three minutes away from a waterfront park with great views of the Harbour Bridge.
Our home is an excellent base for visiting Sydney, in one of Sydney's premier, inner city suburbs, with great public transport by bus and ferry to the Opera House, the CBD, both the major art galleries and cultural precincts.
For kids and park lovers, there are many harbour-side parks a short walk away, including Ballast Point Park and Elkington Park with the wonderful Dawn Fraser Swimming Baths.
We are very lucky to be one block away from the 441 bus, which takes you to the city, the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the Boy-Charlton swimming pool, and a short walk to 2 ferry wharves, where you can catch a ferry to Circular Quay (the Opera House and the Museum of Modern Art) and Cockatoo Island (well worth a day visit). The ferries go to many other places besides.
