My house is 30 minutes to Surfers Paradise, and situated in the Gold Coast hinterland. The house is one of the original farmhouses of the district, and has some of the best views of the area on 3 acres of land. There is a small hamlet around the property consisting of 30 to 40 houses that are built on standard sized house blocks. It was originally known as McInnes farm, but was subdivided in the 1960’s. The property is very private but not secluded. As it is the only house on acreage in what is known as McInnes estate it has the best position to take in the panoramic surroundings. Most days wallabies can be seen grazing over the property. As Beechmont has rich red volcanic soil and access to water aquifers many residents cherish their gardens. My house has a water source enviable by all who hear about it, especially the people I know who live in and around Surfers Paradise who are all on water restrictions due to the drought. I am a builder and stonemason and am slowly renovating the house, it is only half finished but is still very comfortable. I have built a marble and granite bathroom, not with tiles but with slabs both on the floor and walls. It has a hydrotherapy spa that looks out over the mountains as does the main bedroom and living room. As I lay stone as a living in upmarket homes, it is a 5 star bathroom and I love it every time I use it. The main bedroom is finished with king size bed, air conditioning and walk in wardrobe.
Beechmont is very scenic and beautiful. I am a surfer and needed to live near good surf breaks. The gold coast is renowned for its beaches and surf but is starting to become very congested. After work or from surfing, coming back up the mountain road is something I savour. Travelling back as Surfers Paradise’s sky line is silhouetted against the blue sea is something to behold. Having an unlimited water supply is fantastic as I love having spas, which are banned on the coast. Hang gliders and Para-gliders launch themselves off from Rosins lookout when the wind direction is right and can get quite crowded. It is the premiere launch site for the Canungra hang glider association and is a spectacle not to be missed. When I see them in the air my dog and I walk around bluff on the main road and spend some time watching one after the other take off, and soar like birds. It’s a short walk to Rosins lookout taking 5 minutes or so. There are BBQ facilities and toilets which many people take advantage of. From my house you are only 10 minutes to the world heritage listed Lamington National Park. Here you have an abundance of walking tracks to explore, with guided tours and other events on offer. There is a lodge for formal dining or a tea house which also has great food, both set in beautiful surroundings. You can drop over to Canungra and have lunch in the country style pub, or try some fine wines and dining at the Canungra vineyard. If it’s shopping and the beach, Surfers paradise is only 30 minutes away, with world renowned beaches and shopping precincts. I feel very blessed to live in such a beautiful part of Australia; I am from Melbourne originally and have travelled the length and breath of this great land. This is where I finally have come to live because of all the things I have described to you.
As I have said I’m a carpenter who specialises in private housing. Through this I developed a love for natural stone, being taught by friends to lay stone and create bench tops for kitchens and wet areas, which I used to contract out to others. I’m an avid surfer, but also love the bush. I am always walking some where or the other which keeps me fit. I have been doing yoga for several years now and would recommend it to everyone. I love to travel but want to do more, hence my desire to swap houses and experience different cultures. The idea to live amongst the locals, instead of in a hotel precinct is much more appealing to me. To meet the locals in their own habitats, feel the flavours and ways of the people, is a motivation for me to offer up my house and live in someone else’s. I am divorced but in a relationship with a wonderful girl. I speak only English.
